Nakid Charr So! I ran out of stuffing. This was expected. I had enough to get him to the point where I could take measurements for his clothing, which was what was important. The rest will go in right before I put in his teeth.
I'm not happy with the joints, the skeleton at the hips was too wide (it was as small as the fittings would allow) so the legs stick out from the body and even the industrial velcro I put on won't hold them in. I'm going to pick up some zippers to put around them, bit of a pain though since had I known I would have to use zippers I could have gotten them earlier and sewn them in. They'll have to be hand-stiched on, now.
As for time, all that's left is assembling the various parts of the head, making the 'armadillo skin' and the rope and putting all his wraps on. The most time-sensitive part of that is the skin, since it has to dry, be painted, dry again, and likely be varnished and dry once more. I'm not sure on the varnish because it went all cracked on the horns and while that looked fine on them I don't want it doing it on the skin.
So long as I can get matching zippers (hopefully strong ones) it should look fine, though. the shoulder joints worked out better (though it's hard to tell now since the stuffing didn't make it up that high) but I'll probably zipper the tops of them while I'm at it, too.
I started making his ropes last night too, I used 350 feet of jute twine to make his belt rope, cut it into 1.5 metre segments and ended up with a braid around 42 inches long, which is about his waistline. I love the look of the jute twine for this, it is very rough, but that same feature makes it somewhat killer on the hands.
