See, if you look at him, he's got muscles. Also, his chest looks to have shorter fur than the rest of him.
So, out comes the razor! I shaved his belly with an electric razor we got to cut my dog's hair. It was no good on her super fine hair, but it worked excellently on this fur with its soft inner layer and sparse longer hairs.
Then, he needs muscles. I could have just airbrushed them on like they are ingame (it's all just a skin!) but in my opinion the best way to get shadows is to have the shapes to actually cast them. So I needed some muscles.
Muscles are kinda like pillows, and I made these ones much like those. First, I cut some filter floss (it's like stuffing but coarser, comes in sheets, and I have a ton of it already) into squares. Next I put them on the torso piece and pinned another piece of fabric over them. The trick when you do this is to flatten the filler so both pieces of fabric are stretched the same.
Sewing it in was fun. It's about a bazillion degrees (celcius) in my room, and here I am with a giant piece of thick fur backed with stuffing. It's like a furry quilt. Yup. Totally worth it though, these muscles will still show up once he's done and stuffed. I'll probably hand trim some of the fur around them once he's all together to make it transition a little better.
