First, I put another coat of paint on the spikes. This was a slightly yellow white on the jaws and a slightly brown white on the rest. This will be the base colour, then brown/black details will go overtop. The jaws will be getting their gums painted pink too.

Then! Tragedy. Last night I discovered that something was wrong with his elbow pieces. Today I diagnosed it. Due to a tragic Illustrator accident in early development, he was coming down with a case of crazy elbow.

I put my best team of surgeons on it, though, and we were able to completely remove all traces of crazyness from the elbow with minimal scarring. Unfortunately, he lost about half an inch of forearm length to the reconstruction. (It could easily have been much more.) This shouldn't be noticable and related seams will be given smaller allowances to make up for it a bit.

So, a bit of progress on the arms. I'll likely put in that last paw pad and pin them together before I go to bed, so the non-hand portions of the arms should get done tomorrow.

While I'm here, a bit of education. There's three decent ways of hiding seams on fur.

1. Trim the fur off the seam allowance area before sewing.
This is the most invisible of the three, but it is very time consuming so I only use it when I'm attaching two pieces that should have been one piece anyways.

2. Push all the fur to the inside, and pull the excess out from the back after sewing.
This is the method I'm using for most of the seams on this project, I've got a little wire brush that goes on a finger and works excellently for pulling the fur out of the seam, so it's nice and quick.

3. Push all the fur away from the seam before sewing.
This works, but it is even more time consuming than trimming, and you have to be very precise with your pinning and sewing or you'll have to pull hair out aftwerwards anyways. I've not used this method on this project.

Just for fun, here's some ways to *not* hide seams on fur:

-Cut your pieces right through both fur and fabric
This leaves a delighful line of short fur at every seam. I have a couple of these where my pieces got too close to the edge of the fabric where it was cut this way at the store. They look awful, but should be covered by wraps. Note: This method is fine to use if your fur is shorter than your seam allowance. In that case, none of the short fur will make it to the outside.

-Sew through the fur and just leave it
Depending on the direction of the pile, the degree of horrible here can vary. Most of the time, though, you'll end up with a bunch of fur caught in your seams, making then extra visible on the end product.
