I'm down in the states now, and we made it to pax just before the expo hall closed. We spent a bit of time there, then we got back to the house to put the final touches on Tim. He is now complete! I've got pics for you guys:
First, the staff head. I really like this little guy.
We had Tim set up in the kitchen, and there's not much room to move around. So these pics are mostly of his left side.
Here's a side shot.
Here's his back, note that all the armadillo skin is on now.
This is my favorite of tonight's shots, I was worried the colourful staff would look funny but it actually all works quite well together, especially now that the necklace and feathers are on.
He stands quite sturdily now with the stand that Jonathan's mom (and the rest of the family, I'm told everyone pitched in) made. The load-bearing stick worked in theory - but in real life with nothing holding them in place the legs and staff tended to sway around, causing him to fall quite easily. They put angled sticks in his feet as well as a steel rod in his staff to keep it sturdy.
So! We're planning on bringing him to pax fully put together since he's kind of a pain to assemble and it is much more impressive to bring in something whole than to bring in pieces and say 'ok, now wait while we put him together'.
This will happen tomorrow morning, the expo hall opens at 10 but we want to avoid the mad expo hall rush so we'll be just leaving here then. We're also going to contact our inside man who happens to be working the booth at the time to see if he's managed to get any tips on how to bring Tim in. We still need to find a good way to transport him, need a board with wheels or a dolly or something. We'll find a way! If nothing else there's going to be rather a lot of us so worst case we can probably carry him.
